It’s not easy living in today’s society. We face tension, stress and soreness. While essential oils can’t solve our problems, they can provide for a relaxing atmosphere. We can all use relaxation! People who deal with occasional soreness and tension in the head and neck may find essential oils valuable.
I needed something soothing and calming to comfort me a few days ago, so I created this skull soothing blend. The oils in this blend can promote an emotionally calm and soothing atmosphere.
Diffuser Blend
Add the following drops to the water in your essential oil diffuser. You can also multiply the number of drops appropriately and add them and the carrier oil to a roller bottle. roll the oil onto your head and neck and/or your pulse points.
- 3 drops Lavender: Lavender has been studied for its many benefits. It may promote a calming atmosphere. In some studies, patients showed decreased pain levels after inhaling lavender essential oil. *
- 3 drops Eucalyptus: Eucalyptus essential oil contains constituents that have cooling properties. It can promote easier breathing which can be helpful in times of tension. It can can be used topically in a soothing massage. It smells like a spa in a bottle. Doterra’s Eucalyptus is a blend of several eucalyptus essential oils. It cannot be used internally.
- 3 drops spearmint: Spearmint is one of my favorite oils. Like peppermint, it can help with digestive system health, but is a bit more gentle. Two other options are peppermint or supermint. These two oils are even more cooling which I find while dealing with discomfort in the head or any other area. On a scale of levels of cooling sensation, spearmint is the most mild and supermint is the most cooling. Supermint is a blend of peppermint, spearmint, Japanese peppermint and bergamot mint. All three of these mint oils from Doterra are safe for internal use. Peppermint and Supermint are both available in touch (roller bottle) forms in addition to the regular forms. *
- 2 drops Roman Chamomile: Most people have probably heard of chamomile tea and its use for calming the mind and spirit. Chamomile essential oil can have similar properties. it can be used internally, so it could be added to teas if desired. It can be soothing to the body and help promote healthy levels of inflamation when used internally. *

Make an Inhaler
Sometimes, it’s not practical to carry a diffuser around. Actually, it’s rarely practical to carry a diffuser around. If you like this blend and its benefits and want easy access to it, it may be time to make yourself an essential oil inhaler. If you’ve never seen one of these, I’ll do my best to describe one. Basically, it’s a cotton wick that you put essential oils on. Then, you apply essential oils to that wick and put it into a plastic case, apply a bottom to it and slide a lid on top. You can carry it in your purse or pocket. In all honesty, these look a lot like tampons. Usually, I apply around 15 drops to the inhaler, so the 11 drops in this blend are about right.
Make a Roler Bottle
Want something you can apply to yourself? You can multiply the drops by 2 or 3 depending on how big the roller bottle is, but when making a blend for children, I wouldn’t multiply the drops at all. Also, I’ve seen recommendations to use spearmint, not peppermint with kids. Add a carrier oil like jojoba, fractionated coconut oil or sweet almond oil.
Need Essential Oils?
If you’re in need of essential oils, visit my Doterra site. I love Doterra for several reasons. Their oils are high quality and you can actually find out what quality-control tests were performed on the oils by typing the code on the bottle of the bottle into the sourcetoyou.com. Also, they make sure to give back and make a positive impact on the lives of the people who grow the plants that become the essential oils. There are so many other reasons, but that may be for another post.
I hope this blend helps you with any tension you’re feeling, whether it be emotional or physical.
