An Essential Oil Blend For Self-Love and Self-care

I had planned to publish this post in time for Valentine’s Day, but due to a stomach bug, I just didn’t have the energy to get it out in time. That said, while it may not be Valentine’s Day, it doesn’t have to be to give ourselves love.

Valentine’s Day is thought of as a day for romance. People think of giving their sweetheart chocolates and flowers or having a romantic candlelit dinner. But for many of us, there’s no one to share chocolates, flowers or candlelit dinners with. That doesn’t mean we can’t participate in Valentine’s Day, though.

Whether we have a romantic partner or not, giving ourselves love is an important way to care for ourselves. You’ve probably heard the expression “you can’t pour from an empty cup”. This means that if we don’t take care of ourselves, we can’t provide care for others. It’s so common for people to run themselves ragged by not caring for themselves.

That said, self-love is much more than self-care. How many times do we say unkind things about or to ourselves? I know I catch myself calling myself an idiot or saying other negative things. That’s why it’s so important to say loving things and do loving things for ourselves.

I listened to a video about using essential oils to give ourselves love. It inspired me to create a blend to give myself some love. Below, I’ll give the oils and a description of why I included them. The headings that include the oils and numbers of drops link to where you can get them from Doterra.

5 Drops Align

Align is known as the centering blend. Basically, bringing our desires and intentions together, bringing us to our center.

5 Drops Bergamot

Bergamot is both uplifting because it’s a citrus fruit and calming because of its high Linalool content. It’s known as the oil of self-acceptance. accepting ourselves the way we are is so important when it comes to self-love.

1 Drop Cassia

Cassia is the oil of self-assurance. It’s great oil for people who struggle with confidence. I used it in this blend because I tend to assume I’m wrong and allow others’ opinions to define me.I catch myself judging myself and calling myself names. I wanted to add this in my self-love blend to support my confidence and reassure myself that I’m okay just as I am. Pairing it with Bergamot, the oil of self-acceptance is an excellent way to give ourselves the love we deserve.

Cassia smells similar to cinnamon. It’s significantly cheaper than cinnamon, and in fact when you buy cinnamon in the grocery store, you might end up with Cassia. It’s a very strong oil and must be heavily diluted if applied to the skin. Even when diffused, it’s extremely strong, so I recommend starting with one drop and using other oils along with it in the diffuser.

2 Drops Geranium

Geranium is a great oil for the emotional heart. It has a scent that reminds me of rose, but it’s got a scent all its own. It’s especially great for inspiring love and trust, but I’ve also found it helpful when my heart is hurting. It can be soothing, but I also find it uplifting. There are times when my emotions crave geranium, which surprises me because I did not like it at first!

6 Drops grapefruit

According to Essential Emotions, grapefruit is the oil for honoring the body. This makes sense in its own way to me. If you think about grapefruit, it’s often associated with diets. But in oils, it’s great for helping with the movement of fluid throughout the body. Plus, citrus oils are energizing and uplifting.

6 Drops Green Mandarin

As I mentioned in a previous post, Green Mandarin is the oil of pure potential. As another citrus oil, it has uplifting properties. It reminds me that I have potential, I can and will grow and make a difference in the world.

8 Drops Madagascar Vanilla

We know I love vanilla. Its sweet and comforting scent is one of my favorites. It’s labeled as the oil of unfolding. This has to do with creativity, optimism and finding the magic in life. So many times, I find myself struggling with something and wondering “what’s the point of it all”. I get bogged down with the struggles I face. Sometimes, all we need is that friend who gives us a gentle nudge to look up and see the bigger picture and say “Wow, life is pretty special and so are you.”to

How to make this

Add all drops to a 10ml roller bottle. Then, add your carrier oil like fractionated coconut or jojoba and top it with the roller. Put on the lid and shake or swirl to mix.
