I am very prone to cellulitis, I tend to pick at my feet when I’m stressed and I see calluses and I don’t like them. I also have a lot of swelling. Open areas and swelling are a huge red flag when it comes to cellulitis. It’s like the bacteria gets in and says “oh, fluid! Swelling I’m very excited! let’s grow as fast as I can.”
Anyway, I mentioned this not to make anyone feel sorry for me, but instead to share a blend of oils I used in a foot soak. Even if you don’t have cellulitis, I highly recommend it! It was incredibly relaxing and I can honestly say it’s great for a lot of reasons. Mostly, I loved the fact that I got some great pain relief out of it. I don’t know that it solved the infection, but I know that it made my pain significantly better afterwards. As always, I am not diagnosing treating or preventing illness or claiming to do so.
I did about 2 cups of salt specifically Epsom salt, but you could also use something like pink Himalayan sea salt, or dead sea salt. Then I added about 4 to 5 drops of each oil, you could use less and probably should especially if you aren’t used to essential oils. I used this much because I am more familiar with oils and my body seems to like larger quantities. Also, since I split the salt into 4 foot soaks, it wasn’t nearly as much oil per foot soak. I was also trying to deal with a few things, the cellulitis, which was causing pain, the pain I already had due to my chronic conditions and the emotional stress of having the cellulitis. I would say, if you could add these oils to the 2 cups of salt, and add 2 teaspoons of carrier oil, such as fractionated coconut orjojobaa use about a half a cup for each soaking of your feet. Use water that’s comfortably warm to hot. Obviously, make sure it’s not going to burn you, but I don’t recommend using it when it’s too cool. do what’s most comfortable for you. Here’s the recipe of the oils I used, but as always use the number of drops you feel are safe. Remember that they will be significantly diluted by the water as well as the salt.
Cellulitis Foot soak
- Tea tree
- geranium
- lavender
- frankincense
- Copaiba
- Juniper
- Lime
- Balance
- Spearmint
- Epsom Salt
- And carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil.
I would use 1 teaspoon of carrier oil per cup of Epsom salt. Use 1/2 cup of the mixture for each foot soak.
